Mark Kopp (Perth 25/01/1964 - 14/11/2006) was one of Australia's most promising aviation artists. During the 1980s he produced  front page cover paintings for Australian Aviation journal, and illustrations for a number of feature articles and the Technology Explained series. Mark was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1988 with an initial prognosis of weeks to live, but he opted to fight his illness and continued his life as a graphic artist until the late 1990s, by which time his illness robbed him of the fine motor control required to use an airbrush. Mark had a lifelong love of aviation and historical aircraft, which he indulged until days before his death in November, 2006. He was the youngest brother of APA editor Dr Carlo Kopp, and is survived by his wife Alex, and two sons.

Sketches

Mark often produced multiple sketches before he produced an actual painting. This was an important part of the composition process, and the final work usually reflected the best looking sketch. Unfortunately he destroyed most of his sketches over the years, including several magazine covers which were well developed but never resulted in production works.

Cartoons

Mark loved to doodle and cartoon. None of these works were ever published as he was concerned that they would detract from his impressive portfolio of serious works. APA reproduces the last remaining remnants which were not destroyed over time. Some have been retouched to remove water damage.

Further works will be posted as they become available.
