Systems and Basic Technology

Norden APG-76 MMRS SAR/GMTI multimode attack radar installation and GMTI imagery of taxiing aircraft at 40 NMI (Northrop-Grumman).

Air power is inherently sensitive to the technology base which is employed and exhibits a remarkably rapid rate of evolution, as systems absorb basic technology in the marketplace.

This website will post a selection of relevant articles, submissions and papers.

This Stealth Fighter proposal was produced by Carlo Kopp in 1982 (then an electrical engineering undergraduate at the University of Western Australia), based on fundamental electromagnetic scattering. It correctly exploits blending, split wingtip drag rudders, dorsal recessed inlets, blended cockpit and delta planform all of which are third generation stealth features used in the B-2. Were Northrop to have used fly-by-wire in their XST (Have Blue) bid, the aircraft would have been similar in layout to this proposal. Artwork prepared by Mark Kopp.

The EMW Wasserfall W-10 Surface to Air Missile narrowly missed out on operational use. It would have had a devastating impact on the Allied Combined Bomber Offensive in 1944-45.

Pave Mover Radar Demonstrator
The Pave Mover program was the forerunner of today's widely used GMTI targeting radar programs, and was the technology demonstration for the E-8A JSTARS. This demonstrator radar was flown in the weapon bay of an F-111E during the early 1980s (U.S. Air Force photo).
